"The Athletics have selected right-handed pitcher Geoff Hartlieb from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed right-handed pitcher Justin Sterner on the 15-day injured list with a right knee chondromalacia. To clear space on the 40-man roster, infielder Joey Meneses was designated for assignment. The A's also traded right-handed pitcher Aaron Civale to the Chicago Cubs for minor league right-handed pitcher Aiden Moffett."
The Cubs have performed better overall in recent action after an up and down start to the season. While Civale has struggled in 2026, he could still give the team a boost.
The veteran starter made his MLB debut back in 2019 with Cleveland . It is worth mentioning that he spent some time with the Cubs last year. In 2026 with the Athletics, the right-handed hurler turned in a 5.42 ERA across 16 outings (15 starts).
The Cubs made the trade after defeating the Minnesota Twins by a final score of 6-2 on Saturday. Chicago is now 55-43 overall so far this season. They are 5.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League East standings.
