- Cubs Announce Pedro Ramirez Update After Removal From Lineup
Since his call-up in late May, Chicago Cubs rookie Pedro Ramirez has been a reliable piece of the lineup, helping the club in every role asked of him.
Across 61 games, the 22-year-old infielder has posted a .285 batting average, .347 on-base percentage, .783 OPS, four home runs and 24 RBIs. He has also stolen seven bags while being caught just one time and provided steady defense at both second base and third base.

With Dansby Swanson currently on the injured list forcing Nico Hoerner to move to shortstop in his absence, Ramirez has stepped up and provided exactly what the Cubs need.

With Matt Shaw back on the club, the Cubs infield depth has looked a bit better. Unfortunately though, Ramirez is now dealing with a setback that makes their depth look questionable once again.
The Cubs announced via sideline reporter Taylor McGregor that Ramirez is dealing with lower back spasms, which is why he is out of the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers . Instead, Shaw drew the start at second base in his absence.

It is unclear when Ramirez initially suffered the injury, but it likely surfaced during pregame warmups leading to his removal from the lineup. Manager Craig Counsell will likely provide further updates on the plan for Ramirez after the game.
His injury comes at a bad time given Chicago has a chance to make it a closer division race with Milwaukee, but the obvious priority is making sure Ramirez does not suffer a more serious setback. For now it remains a day-to-day situation.
