The Chicago Cubs got some great roster news on Friday.
It just meant bad personal news for one of their other outfielders.
The good news is that Seiya Suzuki is being activated off the IL to return from his knee injury.
The bad news is that Dylan Carlson has been designated for assignment.

The 27-year old Carlson was hitless in four at bats this season for the Cubs.
He was once a first-round pick by the St. Louis Cardinals back in the 2016 MLB Draft. As he rose through the St. Louis system, he was a well-regarded prospect.
Carlson's major league career hasn't quite panned out how he would've hoped. He was solid in 2021 with a .266 average, 31 doubles and 18 home runs. He doubled 30 more times the next season.
Since then, he's been a part-time player between the Cardinals, Rays , Orioles and now Cubs.

The DFA means Carlson is removed from the 40-man roster. It doesn't automatically remove him from the organization, but he has to pass through waivers, and given Carlson's major league experience, another team could claim him off waivers to help add depth.
If he clears waivers, Carlson could end up down at Triple-A Iowa.
It's not a bad situation for the Cubs, who are glad to have Suzuki back. It just throws another wrench into Carlson's baseball career.
