The Boston Bruins are less than a week from rookie camp, and some of their top prospects are getting some attention before we get started.
James Hagens is about to enter his first full NHL season, and his first NHL camp starts on the 16th. He has been involved in early Calder talk, but he still has to earn a role with the Bruins before he can win the award. The Bruins' 2024 first-round pick, who is still at BC, will have a much greater role, but he's also one of the top 10 big guys to watch.

Elsewhere around the league, the Canucks signed a 20-year-old to an eight-year deal. They beat out the Minnesota Wild, who have yet to sign Quinn Hughes. Sabres goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen spoke on the Connor Hellebuyck trade rumors, and there's an update on the Red Wings' GM search.
There are also eight Atlantic Division players who need to deliver, three questions about the Flyers, and the "perfect Devil."

HAGENS : James Hagens is in early talks for the Calder Trophy, though he's not near the favorites. His five-game stint helps him out, as Marco Sturm said he liked what he saw. The head coach also said he will give Hagens a role so long as he earns it. Check out where the seventh overall pick stands in the Calder race, as well as within the organization.

Daily Faceoff : Steven Ellis of DFO ranked the "top 10 huge NHL prospects to watch in 2026-27." Look out for the five Utah Mammoth prospects on the list, but Dean Letourneau sits at No. 10.
The 6-foot-7 first-rounder had a great, bounce-back sophomore season where he finished just behind James Hagens in points. Now that Hagens is gone, it's the Letourneau show in Chestnut Hill.

Sportsnet : The September 15 deadline is coming into play. The Vancouver Canucks signed Zeev Buium to an 8x$9.38M extension yesterday. The Canucks acquired Buium in December as part of the Quinn Hughes trade , and he had 12 points (3-9–12) in 45 games with Vancouver last season.

New GM Ryan Johnson said the Canucks were aggressive. However, as Iain MacIntyre pointed out, the Canucks got Buium signed before Minnesota did Quinn Hughes , and Vancouver didn't have to worry about him wanting to play with his brother.
TSN : Connor Hellebuyck requested a trade, but he's been in trade rumors with the Sabres all summer. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen said he has not been following it too much, telling NHL.com that he's focused on the Sabres and taking the next step.
Detroit Hockey Now : The Red Wings currently don't have a general manager. Will the search go beyond two months? They have lost out on targets ( Eeli Tolvanen ) that can immediately impact their lineup, but the disruptions in management didn't concern Viktor Arvidsson . PuckPedia (via 𝕏) : PuckPedia is reporting that the Red Wings have started eliminating candidates.
Philly Hockey Now : The Flyers are looking to make the playoffs for the second straight year after watching on the sidelines for five straight years. They, like many, have a big training camp starting within the next two weeks, and Will James pitches three questions heading into the two-week camp.

New Jersey Hockey Now : This one is fun. NJHN polled fans, and they built the "perfect Devil." There are 10 categories, including speed, hockey IQ, size, strength, and defense. Daniel Amoia has more on the results and what the "perfect Devil" looks like.
Sportsnet : New Bruins and old Bruins. Ryan Dixon has one player who has to deliver for each team in the Atlantic, including former Bruin Viktor Arvidsson.
