Jerry Jones witnessed Dak Prescott, along with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, take the Dallas Cowboys' offense to a different level during the 2025 NFL season. Brian Schottenheimer, who was the offensive coordinator of the Cowboys in 2023 and 2024 before being named the head coach, had a role to play despite not calling plays. It was reported that it was Schottenheimer who helped jump-start the Cowboys' offense in 2023.
Prescott's absence for much of the 2024 season was one of the biggest reasons behind the Cowboys' offensive struggles. After Prescott returned healthy for the 2025 season, the Cowboys posted eye-catching numbers. They scored 471 points, the seventh-highest total in the NFL. They also ranked second in total offense with 6,663 yards.

The Cowboys quarterback threw for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns, earning his fourth Pro Bowl selection of his career in the process. On the other hand, Pickens and Lamb supported Prescott equally well, recording 1,429 and 1,077 receiving yards, respectively. The Cowboys have made their intentions to win now very clear. But Jones is also keeping a close eye on the franchise's future as well.
The Cowboys decided to waive Joe Milton while naming their 53-man roster, and decided to keep Sam Howell as Prescott's backup. However, Schottenheimer, understanding the potential of Milton, wanted the Cowboys to re-sign the quarterback if he cleared waivers. That is exactly what Jones did. The Cowboys re-signed Milton to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

Prescott, reacting to the Cowboys' decision, was full of praise for the young quarterback, saying, "It means a lot. Just me, personally, I thought he would've been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is. Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better, a guy that makes our team better."
"His spirit, just the way that he approaches the day, he's a hell of a dude, he's a hell of a competitor, one of the best at throwing the ball, honestly, and just his talent. Just the way he's jumped and progressed from year to year, I know what's ahead of him," he added.

Prescott will be entering his 11th season with the Cowboys in 2026. The goal will be clear for the quarterback as he gears up to face the New York Giants in the regular-season opener: win the Super Bowl.
