The Dallas Cowboys have made a couple of roster moves ahead of the weekend. Dallas' running back room is looking a bit different ahead of their first preseason game next week against the Seattle Seahawks .
The Dallas Cowboys made a pair of roster moves to close out the week early in training camp ahead of their first preseason game against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
Dallas has waived running back Dominic Richardson from the roster and signed former UFL rushing yard leader Jashaun Corbin to take his spot on the roster, according to Patrik Walker.
Richardson was an undrafted free agent who spent time playing at Oklahoma State, Baylor, and Tulsa over a six-year college career. In parting ways with the running back, the Cowboys moved to bring in a player with recent UFL success.
Corbin played at major college football programs between Texas A&M and Florida State. His best season came in 2021 at Florida State when he rushed for 887 yards and seven touchdowns, more than doubling his previous high of 401 rushing yards the season prior.
The 5-foot-11, 224-pound running back went undrafted and spent time with the New York Giants in 2023. He played in six games but logged only three catches for 12 yards with no rushing attempts. Corbin has spent the last couple of years in the UFL, most recently with the Orlando Storm, where he ran for 438 yards on 131 attempts with three touchdowns.
Corbin is a 25-year-old running back who is going to have a chance to make a Cowboys roster that needs depth at the position. He'll compete for a 53-man roster spot with a backfield that already has its pecking order taking shape.
Dallas has Javonte Williams , who played his way into a three-year deal last season, but the Cowboys would like him to lead a committee of running backs rather than serve as a three-down workhorse. The second running back spot looks like it belongs to Jaydon Blue . His explosiveness and speed make him unique in the Cowboys' room, and he has the ability to be a pass catcher as well as a runner. Still, Blue spent most of last year as a healthy scratch and has an uphill climb to prove he can solidify that role.
Corbin is going to have the chance to battle for the RB3 spot with Phil Mafah , Malik Davis , and others like training camp standout Israel Abanikanda . The swap of Corbin for Richardson suggests the Cowboys were trying to upgrade the back end of the running back room, at the very least to create a stronger competition through training camp and put the position in the best shape possible heading into the season.
The Cowboys haven't been shy about bringing in players from a spring league. Kevontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey are proof that the pipeline works. This signing is just another example that fits a mold Dallas has used before, not to say you can have the same kind of expectations, but it's a similar swing.
