Dan Burn's ankle injury is worse than first feared as Matthias Jaissle deals with his first major blow of the new Premier League campaign.
Newcastle began life under new manager Jaissle with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at St James' Park on Sunday to kick off the new league season.

The German was forced to start the new campaign without his newly-appointed club captain Burn, who was ruled out just hours before the game with an ankle problem.
Burn was subsequently pictured arriving at St James' Park in a protective boot, with initial reports confirming that he was set for several weeks out.
A new update on his issue has confirmed that he is facing over a month on the sidelines until the first international break of the campaign.
Newcastle are not likely to enter the market for a new centre-back despite his issues, leaving Jaissle with three senior players to choose from in the middle of his backline for the foreseeable future.

Burn has been a stalwart at the back for the Magpies over the last four seasons, missing just 18 games through injury since he arrived at the club in January 2022.
He is set to play a key role under Jaissle after being handed the captaincy following Bruno Guimaraes' exit, but will have to wait until October to feature under his new manager in a competitive match.
Journalist Keith Downie has revealed, via X, that Burn is expected to be out until after the September/October international break, meaning he is also likely to miss out on England's next round of fixtures.

While a new centre-back is not on the Magpies' agenda, they are still set for a relatively busy end to the window after a tough summer.
Newcastle look to be closing in on a move for Man City holding midfielder Nico Gonzalez, with reports on Monday stating that a £50million deal has been agreed and he is expected to travel for a medical soon.
Sources have revealed to Football Insiderthat Newcastle are keen on signing Christopher Nkunku, so an attacking midfielder is clearly also on their shortlist.

Fans can expect a striker through the door too, after Jaissle also hinted at one being signed by replying "that's right" when asked if Will Osula's injury against Liverpool highlighted Newcastle's need for more attacking reinforcements on Sunday.
