The situation surrounding David Bailey and his recent silence after the New York Jets canceled his pre-draft visit has become a focal point of speculation just days before the 2026 NFL Draft. Jets General Manager Darren Mougey recently addressed the decision , explaining that the team was simply “juggling” its thirty allotted visits and chose to reallocate its resources elsewhere.

Mougey noted that the staff had already enjoyed high-quality interactions with the edge rusher at the Scouting Combine and during a detailed dinner following his Pro Day.
According to reports from Adam Schefter, the Jets felt they already had a comprehensive scouting profile on Bailey, making an additional trip to their facility unnecessary.
Mougey also cautioned against reading too much into the move, admitting that the team sometimes uses visit cancellations as strategic smokescreens to keep their rivals guessing during the final stages of the process.
David Bailey has maintained his composure throughout this change in the Jets’ plans.

As reported by Zack Rosenblatt on X, Bailey described his pre-draft experience as “good” despite the sudden change of plans.
He specifically mentioned that while he wasn’t able to tour the facility, he felt he had “great interaction with them at the Combine and during FaceTime calls.”
By keeping this line of communication open, Bailey seems confident in the rapport he built with the New York staff, even if the formal top-30 visit never happened.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe suggests that the decision to bypass a final meeting with Bailey points toward the team selecting Ohio State’s Arvell Reese .
Rival executives have noted that it “wouldn’t make a lick of sense” to cancel a visit with a player you intend to draft so highly, as teams typically maximize their time with potential franchise cornerstones.

Even when Bailey was once considered a safer bet due to his polished game, the consensus around the league now believes that Reese’s high ceiling has won over the Jets’ front office.
This suggests that the cancellation was a significant sign in a high-stakes draft mystery.
