Jack Grealish has now been missing for three games, unavailable for the trip to Arsenal, Everton's Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle, and the Premier League encounter against the Magpies on Monday night.
The Everton winger has been omitted from the squad due to a disciplinary issue , and his team-mates showed they can live without him after two wins in their previous two matches.
David Moyes has been fairly cautious when discussing the Grealish situation, suggesting after the first Newcastle match that it was a club decision, supported by him.
That's now three games that Grealish has missed, and Everton have another match on Friday night as they host newly promoted Coventry City. Everton's official line before the game, when confirming Grealish wasn't available, was that he isn't match fit, but Moyes spoke about him after the game.
Moyes on Grealish
As mentioned, Moyes has been very careful about what he says around Grealish. It wasn't too different after the game against Newcastle, although Moyes did admit that there could be a way back for him with the Toffees .
When initially asked whether Grealish would be involved against Coventry City in the Premier League on Friday night, Moyes said:
"I don't know yet."
When pushed further and asked whether there was a way back for Grealish, Moyes said there was.
"Of course there is, yes," said Moyes.
Interestingly, though, Moyes took a long time to answer that question, sitting in silence before confirming there was a way back. The Everton manager needed time to think about his answer, and it certainly wasn't a convincing yes from the boss.
Usually with a question like that if Moyes had a straight, obvious answer, he would reply almost instantly, but it was very interesting that he took his time.
What that means, we might find out in the future, and it will certainly be interesting to discover whether he's in the squad for the game agaisnt Coventry this weekend.
Moyes on Branthwaite
Jarrad Branthwaite was substituted late in the game by Moyes, which was a confusing one for supporters with Everton looking to hold on to a lead. Many would have feared the worst given his injury record, but were perhaps confused as he didn't appear to be struggling too much.
After the game, Moyes admitted that Branthwaite was cramping in both legs, and they don't believe it's anything too serious.
"Jarrad went off, he was cramping in both legs. We don't think it's too serious but obviously he's been out for a couple of weeks.
"We're not nursing them back in and we'd have hoped he'd have got through, but he was struggling in the last 15 minutes."
Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be anything too bad, but it's a quick turnaround to Coventry. Moyes might even be tempted to rest the English centre-back, given he's been out for a couple of weeks and we face a newly promoted side, who you'd expect to beat with or without him - famous last words?
