The Cleveland Browns picked up a 37-13 victory over the New England Patriots in the preseason finale on Thursday night at Huntington Bank Field, and there were plenty of offensive players who were making one final, positive performance in bids for a spot on the 53-man roster.
Running backs Davon Booth and Ahmani Marshall are two players on the bubble for the 53-man roster, and they really helped themselves with an extended look in Thursday's surprising victory.
Booth, Marshall Might be Each Other's Biggest Enemy
The 24-year-old Marshall was signed as an undrafted free agent in August 2025 out of Appalachian State. In his final season with the Mountaineers, he rolled for 713 rushing yards and seven scores, while adding 11 receptions for 71 yards with one lost fumble. He was unable to crack the 53-man roster last fall.
Marshall was a practice squad player for the Browns, spending late August through late October with the practice squad. He was released October 27, 2025, but re-signed to the practice squad in early December. The team then signed him to a reserve/futures contract in early January.
Booth was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State this spring. He posted a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and he was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2024 in Stark Vegas. He racked up 552 rushing yards and nine touchdowns last season, while adding 165 receiving yards.
In the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears , Marshall had six runs for just four yards, while adding three receptions for 19 yards. Booth ran for a game-high 53 yards on four carries, including a 28-yard scamper, while he was not targeted in the passing game.
Against the Buffalo Bills in the first preseason game, Marshall ran eight times for 18 yards, while adding an 11-yard grab. Booth rushed three times for 16 yards, while he had two receptions, both for negative yardage.
Lastly, against the New England Patriots, both players saw an increased workload. Marshall ran nine times for 24 yards, while adding two receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Booth went for 10 carries, 40 yards and a touchdown, while posting a 4-yard grab on his lone target.
With Quinshon Judkins, Dylan Sampson and Raheim Sanders likely to be the top three running backs in Cleveland , it remains to be seen if the team will carry a fourth running back. It's possible both Booth and Marshall are practice squad guys to start 2026, but we'll see when the 53-man final roster is announced.
