It was three years ago today that the Texas Rangers put themselves on the cusp of their first-ever World Series title.
On this day in 2023, the Rangers took down the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-7 in Game 4 of the World Series .
The win would set up Texas to win the title the very next day as they won Game 5 to sweep all three games in Phoenix and finish with a perfect 11-0 record on the road in the postseason.
As for Game 4, the Rangers offense showed up to play in front of a raucous crowd of 48,388 at Chase Field.
Rangers put together key second inning
Following a scoreless first inning, Texas went out and put up five runs in the second inning to make a huge early statement.
The scoring got started thanks to the Arizona pitching staff as Joe Mantiply fired a wild pitch that allowed Josh Jung to score the game's first run.
Later in the inning, Marcus Semien came through with a two-RBI triple that scored both Leody Taveras and Travis Jankowski.
Corey Seager stepped to the plate as the very next batter and smashed a two-run home run to score Semien and himself and mark his second straight World Series game with a home run.
In the third, the Rangers were right back on the attack as Travis Jankowski came through with an RBI double that scored Jung and Nathaniel Lowe.
Marcus Semien delivers
Jankowski was, of course, only in the lineup because Adolis Garcia was removed from the World Series roster with a back injury.
Semien would inflict more pain on the D-backs later in the inning when he smashed a three-run home run to make it 10-0.
Overall, Semien would finish with an astonishing five RBI on the night, all of them coming in the game's first two innings.
Arizona struck for its first run of the game in the fourth, but Jonah Heim got it back in the eighth when he blasted a solo home run to make it 11-1.
The D-backs would wind up scoring six more runs against the Texas bullpen in the eighth and ninth, but it would go down as too little, too late.
Andrew Heaney started the game for Texas and turned in another solid postseason start as he went five innings and allowed just one run.
After that, it took six Rangers relievers to close out the game with Jose Leclerc coming on to get the final out.
