DeMarcus Cousins came to Kevin Durant 's defense after the Houston Rockets star pushed back against a reporter's question following their 109-93 win over the Boston Celtics. In a clip shared by NBA Courtside on X, Cousins questioned the reporter's understanding of basketball, arguing that Durant did exactly what the situation required of him. He particularly took issue with the decision to question Durant's low shot attempts despite Houston securing a convincing victory.
Cousins explained that drawing defensive attention and creating opportunities for teammates are important parts of the game, even when they do not show up prominently in the box score.
"For you to ask that dumbass question after a win… he did exactly what the f*** he was supposed to do," Cousins said. He added that Durant served as a decoy and distraction, allowing his teammates to capitalize offensively as the Rockets continue improving and establish themselves among the league's stronger teams this season.

The Rockets star also pointed to Jabari Smith Jr.'s scoring difference between games, emphasizing that individual statistics should not overshadow the team's overall performance.
Cousins' comments echoed Durant's frustration, highlighting how players can contribute without necessarily leading the box score. For the former center, Durant's willingness to prioritize winning over personal numbers was precisely what the reporter failed to recognize.
