Derrick Harmon bullies Steelers O-line to win training camp MVP
Over the past few draft cycles, the Pittsburgh Steelers poured immense resources into rebuilding their offensive line. Yet throughout summer practices in Latrobe, second-year defensive lineman Derrick Harmon turned that highly touted group into his personal proving ground.
Harmon's relentless, physical dominance earned him top honors as the standout player of training camp on the " Locked On Steelers " podcast. Hosts Christopher Carter and guest Alan Saunders pointed out that once the pads came on, Harmon consistently overpowered Pittsburgh's premium draft investments in the trenches.

"I went with my top player of training camp being Derrick Harmon, and particularly because when the pads finally went on. In pretty much all those run periods when the offensive line was pushing, and that's the group that they've invested the most in as far as draft picks in recent years, whenever Derrick Harmon was out there, they were not shining. He was bullying people. He was pushing people around," Carter highlighted.
"With how good Zach Frazier is, Mason McCormick is, Troy Fautanu is, if he's able to do that all season long, that's going to be a huge boost to this Steelers defense."
What makes Harmon's ascension so notable is how far ahead he appears relative to typical young interior defenders, including franchise icons.

"He's such an advanced player for a young defensive lineman," Saunders added. "I think if he can continue on that trajectory, look at where Cam Heyward was his rookie year, his second year. Nowhere near as advanced as Derrick Harmon is. He has to develop a lot more pass rush, I think he needs more consistency in some parts of his game, but he's starting so far ahead. I just think it's phenomenal how good he is this young."
If Harmon maintains this trajectory, Pittsburgh's front seven could be special in 2026.
