Johnson spent 13 of his 14 NFL seasons in Kansas City from 2005 to 2017, becoming one of the most decorated defensive players in franchise history. He appeared in 182 games, the most ever by a Chiefs linebacker, and helped lead the team to six playoff appearances.
A two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowl selection, Johnson holds the franchise record for total tackles with 1,146 and remains the only player in team history to surpass 1,000 tackles in a Chiefs uniform.
Over his career, he recorded 1,163 tackles, 27.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles and 77 passes defensed. Johnson said the honor fulfills a long-held dream.
“I am so grateful and honored to be inducted into the Chiefs Ring of Honor,” he said. “I played 13 years in Arrowhead and always dreamed of one day having my name at the top of the stadium alongside other legends.”

He was originally selected 15th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Texas. Johnson entered the league following a standout college career that included winning both the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Dick Butkus Trophy in 2004. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
Off the field, Johnson has been active in the community through his Defend the Dream Foundation, which provides resources and educational support to underserved youth. The foundation has contributed thousands of books and funded school library transformations in both Kansas City and Austin.
Johnson’s induction ceremony this fall will add his name to the Chiefs’ Ring of Honor, cementing his legacy as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
