- Diamondbacks' $210 million man decides on 2027 contract, report says
Right-hander Corbin Burnes will not exercise the opt-out clause in his contract with the Diamondbacks , according to a report, a decision that comes as no surprise after he finished the season with more arm problems.
Burnes is owed $35 million annually over the next four seasons in what remains on the franchise-record, six-year, $210 million deal he signed in December 2024. The move was reported by USA Today's Bob Nightengale .

Burnes, 32, missed most of the year recovering from Tommy John surgery and dealing with a shoulder issue that popped up during his elbow rehab. He struggled in the three starts he did make, posting a 7.84 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. He was working with diminished velocity over his final couple of starts.

He had been slated to pitch in the final weekend of the season in San Diego but did not take the ball due to the quality of stuff, which he attributed to shoulder inflammation. He said an MRI showed no structural damage. He hoped his stuff would tick back up after an offseason of rest and strengthening.
Burnes, the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner, made 11 starts for the Diamondbacks in 2025, posting a 2.66 ERA in 64 1/3 innings before needing elbow surgery.
