Manny Machado , Fernando Tatis Jr. , Ketel Marte , Geraldo Perdomo and Nolan Arenado will command much of the spotlight in Spanish-speaking Mexico City, but Corbin Carroll has the ability to draw more eyeballs than any other star during this two-game series. The Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder has a dynamic skill set that should ignite the animated crowd in Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu.
He can hit for batting average, tear the cover off the baseball, make a big play on defense and race around the bases like few others (47 triples and 127 stolen bases through 511 MLB games). The 25-year-old is tailor-made for this audience and matchup. He is humbled and eager to compete in Mexico’s capital.
“Yeah, I’m excited,” he told MLB Network analyst and former All-Star first baseman Yonder Alonso before Saturday’s battle versus the San Diego Padres . “Obviously, {I} heard all about the elevation, how passionate these fans are, and {I’m} really looking forward to it.”
Carroll may be soft-spoken in interviews, but he makes a thunderous statement with his play. The 2025 Silver Slugger and two-time All-Star has two top-10 MVP finishes through his first three full seasons with the Diamondbacks. He could be primed to bring home the award in 2026.
The 2023 National League Rookie of the Year is batting .296 with three home runs, 17 RBIs, four triples, a .396 on-base percentage, .580 slugging percentage and .976 OPS in 96 plate appearances.
Corbin Carroll will have a golden opportunity to enhance those numbers in the hitting-happy conditions in Mexico City. He is locked-in, but judging by his thoughtful demeanor, the D-backs pillar will relish this experience.
