Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte did not attend Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Manager Torey Lovullo initially said Marte was dealing with a "personal issue." Reports suggested Marte was indeed in Boston despite not going to the game, a contest Arizona dropped 11-1 at Fenway Park. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Marte was headed back to Arizona to undergo an MRI on his knee . Diamondbacks All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll reacted to Marte missing Monday's game on Tuesday during an interview, via Arizona Spots.
"I think in full transparency, I think some part of some of the players was probably thinking about (during the game) the guy just out of care for our teammate, care for our brother, knowing that a member of our family was hurting in some way," Carroll said. "I think that's one piece of it, but at the same time we're all professionals. You know, not necessarily something exactly like this, but we've dealt with plenty of stuff over the course of our careers. I think the coaches did a great job of making sure that we were locked in."
Carroll admitted the team was thinking about Marte, but he also knew the Diamondbacks needed to find a way to lock in and focus on the game itself.
