The New York Knicks are on top of the world at the moment, coming off the franchise's first championship in over 50 years. Leading the way for the Knicks during the playoffs was star point guard Jalen Brunson who proved he could be the top option on a title team. But where does Brunson fit in the pantheon of New York sports heroes?
Apparently Jalen Brunson has a ways to go before he belongs in the conversation of the greatest New York sports figures of all time as the Knicks' star recently revealed his choices for the Mt. Rushmore of city sports heroes, and he did not include himself.
The Finals MVP did include a Knick on his list, however, with Walt 'Clyde' Frazier making the cut alongside former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter , former New York Giants star Eli Manning and former New York Jets star Joe Namath .
The No. 5 overall pick in the 1967 NBA Draft, Frazier helped lead the Knicks to two championships, the first in 1970 and the second in 1973. He played 10 of his 13 seasons in the league with the Knicks before finishing up his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers . He was a seven-time all-star and six-time All NBA selection during his tenure with the franchise.
But Brunson has a chance to be remembered as one of the greatest Knicks of all-time if he continues his present trajectory and keeps the team in the title-contending conversation. He'll be entering his fifth season as a Knick, and former NBA stars Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal already called him the greatest free agency signing in league history.
