Part of the issue with seeing Joe Huber working through injury earlier in the week is that the new starter was originally the backup. Losing him for Week 8, something that's not going to happen since only Jay Ward is questionable , would have further strained the line depth.
Kevin O'Connell addressed that potential issue earlier in the week when chatting with the Minnesota media. His insight was that both of Trevor Keegan and Caleb Tiernan were getting reps at left guard to ensure there was sufficient depth. Isn't somebody missing within the conversation? What of 2024 7th-Round selection Michael Jurgens?
Much of the appeal of Mr. Jurgens is that he can be shuffled around the interior.
Most obviously, Jurgens is an option to solidify the center position. Joe Huber had been looked at as an option to play center if something were to happen to Blake Brandel, but that's not an option due to the loss of Donovan Jackson for the season. Huber is the new LG1, meaning the sophomore has his hands full.
Prior to the season beginning, there was a move for Nick Samac, but he has been hurt, as well. The center depth has therefore been depleted, creating some obvious need for Mr. Jurgens to continue functioning as the C2.

The smart, hard-working third-year player got chosen in that 2024 draft haul that's most well-known for bringing J.J. McCarthy and Dallas Turner to the Twin Cities. Consider, as well, that Kwesi Adofo-Mensah also snagged Will Reichard and Levi Drake Rodriguez in that cluster of talent, a pair of terrific selections from the former GM.

Per PFF , Jurgens soaked up 2,239 reps at center in his career at Wake Forest. Do note, though, that he got shuffled into the left guard job for 735 snaps, not an insignificant amount. The Vikings of yesteryear may have leaned toward Jurgens for left guard duty but he appears to be behind newcomers Trevor Keegan and Caleb Tiernan.

Given that Jurgens didn't get drafted by the Vikings' current front office, it's fair to wonder how secure his employment is in Minnesota.
Next on the schedule is a game against the Detroit Lions. Most obviously, Aidan Huchinson is an absolute monster who appears likely to create at least a few issues. He'll work alongside former Viking D.J. Wonnum to create a nice pair of edge rushers in Michigan.
But then there are a pair of other players to watch: DT Alim McNeill and LB Jack Campbell. Both appear likely to get the upper hand on Minnesota's iOL a time or two on Sunday. If so, then the Vikings will need to get creative about how to overcome the issue.
Kickoff between the Vikings and Lions is set for Sunday, November 1st at 12:00 p.m. Watch to see if Jurgens dresses.
