Everyone had a feeling that the Milwaukee Bucks might look a little different when the season ends, and one of the first dominoes has already fallen. Shortly after the Bucks' final regular-season game, it was reported that Doc Rivers would be stepping down as the head coach of the team.
The next day, Rivers wrote a statement about the decision.
"I have truly loved my time in Milwaukee," Rivers said. "Coming back to where I got my start, to a city that has always embraced me, has been a privilege. I am disappointed that things did not turn out the way any of us hoped, but l am deeply grateful for this experience, the relationships built, and unwavering support from our fans and the community. Milwaukee will always mean a lot to me, and this chapter will hold a special place in my heart."
It was a rough tenure as head coach for Rivers, as the team didn't accomplish much over the past three seasons. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs the past two seasons, and missed the playoffs and play-in tournament this season.
Over the past week, there were rumors of a disconnect between Rivers and the players , and during a meeting, he told the team to check his resume. Rivers shared on the Run it Back show that he wasn't saying that in a disrespectful way.
Nonetheless, the Bucks will now have to find a new head coach for next season, but there is also uncertainty on what the team will look like. The big headline this offseason will be the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo, and it feels like a chance that he could be on a new team at some point.
That can't stop the Bucks from their search for a new coach, but it may have some effect on who they choose.
