The Los Angeles Dodgers have been coasting right along so far on the 2026 MLB season, currently sitting at 20-9 after a recent home win over the Miami Marlins. Up next for the Dodgers is another home game against the Marlins on Tuesday, in which Shohei Ohtani will be the team’s starting pitcher.
Now, more information is coming to light on how else Ohtani will, or will not, be utilized in the game.
“Shohei Ohtani will be held out of the lineup Tuesday night when he starts on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Miami Marlins,” reported the Associated Press, per ESPN.
Ohtani has already had one other game this season in which he has pitched but did not hit.
The Dodgers have been more cautious with Ohtani this year as a pitcher, giving him larger amounts of rests in between games in order to preserve his health both on the mound and at the plate. On Tuesday evening, he will be pitching on five days of rest.
Meanwhile, Ohtani was one of the heroes for the Dodgers in their win on Monday against Miami, finishing the game 3-5 with a ground-rule double, two singles, two runs and an RBI.
Overall, it’s not surprising to see the Dodgers exercise more caution with Ohtani, and their pitching staff as a whole, considering the way the team was decimated by injuries in that department last season, which severely strained their depth.
When he’s been on the mound so far this year, Ohtani has mostly performed up to his standards, and the Dodgers as a whole look to be in prime position to add a third straight World Series championship to their trophy case.
First pitch between Miami and Los Angeles is set for 10:10 pm ET.
