Dodgers Officially Add Santiago Espinal to Opening Day Roster
The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Santiago Espinal ’s contract after their 5-1 win over the Giants on Wednesday, adding him to the Opening Day roster.
LA signed Espinal to a minor league deal towards the beginning of spring training, and manager Dave Roberts said he “seamlessly” fit in with the rest of the squad since arriving.
His comfortability has been apparent, as he has been one of the Dodgers’ best players during Cactus League play. He’s slashing .389/.432/.639 with two home runs and 13 RBIs, and has also been perfect in the field for the Dodgers with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
What Role Will Santiago Espinal Fill in 2026?
The Dodgers have plenty of use for a skilled utility infielder like Espinal, and he could very well make his Dodgers debut as soon as Opening Day.
Tommy Edman , the Dodgers’ everyday second baseman, is set to miss some time to kick off the 2026 season, leaving his spot vacant. Espinal is one of the names in the mix for the spot, and seeing as how the Dodgers brought him onto the roster, he could be a key player for them during the early parts of the season.
A one-time All-Star, Espinal has never been known for his bat, but if he can produce for the Dodgers in the regular season as he has during spring training, he’ll be invaluable to the team throughout the year.
How do you feel about the Dodgers’ move?
