At this stage of his MLB career, Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has proven there isn’t much he can’t do on the diamond. On Sunday, Ohtani further left his mark in the Dodgers history books .
In the team’s matchup against the Colorado Rockies , the designated hitter smashed an RBI double. It extended his on-base streak to 51, which is now the third-longest in Dodgers history since 1990, via Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
Ohtani’s work at the dish was unquestioned by the time he arrived to the Dodgers. But he made sure there were zero doubters after he became the first player in MLB history with 50 home runs and stolen bases in 2024. His entire three years with the Dodgers has resulted in a .294 batting average with 114 home runs, 242 RBIs and 79 stolen bases.
Heading into Sunday’s matchup, Ohtani was hitting .264 with five home runs and 10 RBIs through his first 19 games of the season. While not the most explosive start, based on his standards, the Dodgers certainly aren’t complaining.
Especially when Ohtani is also leading their pitching rotation. Through his first three starts, the left-hander holds a 0.50 ERA and a 18/6 K/BB ratio. As long as he continues to thrive as both a hitter and pitcher, Ohtani will be setting plenty of more records.
That’s exactly what the Dodgers were hoping for when they signed him to a $700 million contract. As they try to chase their third-straight World Series title, Ohtani will play a central role in any success they find. At the very least, Los Angeles is confident the designated hitter will get on base.
