Dodgers Can’t Afford to Lose Momentum vs. Nationals

The Los Angeles Dodgers are coming off a shocking series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals , but they were at least able to salvage the series finale .
Regardless, this is a Dodgers team that doesn't often drop series at home. For whatever reason, the Cardinals had their number, and the rest was history.

Now 83-57, the Dodgers are one of three teams who are 3.5 games out from having the best record in all of baseball.
It's a tight race, to say the least, and that's exactly why they have to ride the momentum of their 3-2 win into a series against the 67-75 Washington Nationals .
Nationals have won five of their last seven
Consistency has been an issue with the Nationals, no doubt, but they just split a two-game slate with the Atlanta Braves and won five of six games from Aug. 27-Sept. 1.
Keep in mind, this is the same Nationals team that went from 59-61 to 62-73 from August 9-26.
Losing 12 of 15 is never easy, but somehow, the team has begun to turn things around once again. Their days of hovering around .500 seem to be over, but it'll be interesting to see how they do on this West Coast trip, which begins with a three-game slate at Dodger Stadium.

Cade Cavalli vs. Tyler Glasnow will be incredible
If there's one thing the Nationals have going for them this season, it's the fact that Cade Cavalli is an impressive 12-5 with a rock-solid 3.12 ERA.
His 177 strikeouts are more than Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow have combined, but obviously, those two have had a limited sample size this season.
That said, the game two starting pitching matchup will be incredible to watch, and it comes one day after Snell takes the mound for the Dodgers against Jackson Kent.
It's worth noting the Dodgers have yet to name their starter in the series finale. It's obviously not going to be Shohei Ohtani , but LA knows that Andrew Alvarez will be their opponent in that game.

The Dodgers are tasked with facing a pair of lefties in this series, with the lone exception to that being Cavalli.
The 28-year-old has a chance to prove to the world just how good he truly is, though he's still listed as day-to-day after he was struck in the calf by a comebacker during his last start on Saturday, Aug. 29.
