The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Tyreek Hill to clear significant cap space, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter .
Hill's 2026 departure seemed inevitable after the receiver suffered a devastating knee injury in late September. The eight-time Pro Bowler was due to count $51,134,044 against the Dolphins' salary cap in 2026. By releasing the receiver, Miami will recoup $22,885,294 in space. However, the team will be saddled with a $28,248,750 dead money hit for Hill.
The Dolphins acquired Hill in a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2022 offseason. He rewarded Miami with two of the most prolific receiving seasons in NFL history. Hill eclipsed 1,700 receiving yards in both 2022 and 2023, becoming the only player to reach that milestone twice in their career.
But with the Miami offense struggling to find a rhythm in 2024, Hill finished with 959 yards and stirred up drama when he issued a pseudo trade request immediately following the team's Week 18 finale. While he walked that back and worked to re-ingrain himself in the Dolphins offense, his serious knee injury spelled the end of his time in Miami.
