The Miami Dolphins could get a secondary boost against the New England Patriots, but their offensive line could be without a key starter.
Cornerback JuJu Brents appears to be trending toward playing Sunday after returning to limited practice Thursday. Brents had been placed in concussion protocol earlier in the week.
Brents played most of the snaps in Miami's 28-25 Week 7 victory over the New York Jets. He is also dealing with a neck injury, making his status one to monitor heading into Sunday's AFC East matchup.
The news isn't as encouraging for left guard Kadyn Proctor, who remains in concussion protocol and missed practice for the second consecutive day. Proctor played every offensive snap in Miami's win over the Jets and even spoke to the media at a news conference the following day.
If Proctor can't play, Jarrett Kingston is the likely replacement at left guard.
That would be a significant loss for a Dolphins team that has developed one of the NFL's better rushing attacks. Proctor has played a key role on the left side of the offensive line, allowing just one sack and committing three penalties over 357 snaps this season.
Brents appears to have the better chance of suiting up Sunday. If he's unavailable, Jason Marshall Jr. would likely take on a more prominent role as Miami's second cornerback against the Patriots.
Along with Brents, tight ends Greg Dulcich (ankle) and Will Kacmarek (hamstring), wide receivers Malik Washington (knee) and Jared Wayne (knee), safeties Dante Trader Jr. (shoulder) and Michael Taaffe (neck/foot), cornerback Reese Taylor (quadriceps), and long snapper Tucker Addington (shoulder) were listed as limited participants Thursday.
Quarterback Malik Willis (groin), running back Jaylen Wright (foot/quad), and edge rusher Rob Beal Jr. (hamstring) all practiced fully.
Patriots injury update
New England also has injury concerns heading into Sunday's matchup.
Wide receiver A.J. Brown missed Thursday's practice after his knee injury reportedly flared up, according to NFL Network. Brown was limited Wednesday because of an ankle injury.
Running back TreVeyon Henderson also missed Thursday's practice because of an illness. Offensive linemen Morgan Moses (foot) and Ben Brown (knee), along with defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (back), were limited.
The Dolphins will hope Brents can return to the lineup, while Proctor's status remains uncertain. With a divisional matchup looming, Miami could use all the help it can get on both sides of the ball.
