At the halfway point of the NFL season, the Miami Dolphins are already seeing returns on their 2026 draft class, with both first-round picks making an immediate impact.
CBS Sports writer Ryan Wilson recently released his midseason grades for the 2026 rookie class, giving offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor and cornerback Chris Johnson a C+.
Proctor, selected No. 12 overall, has faced a learning curve after moving from left tackle to left guard.
"Proctor has been candid about his struggles moving inside, acknowledging that speed of the game in confined spaces — something he didn't have to deal with at Alabama — creates bigger problems at guard," Wilson wrote. "His rare athleticism remains obvious, but the balance and hand-placement concerns from his college tape haven't disappeared. A Week 7 concussion hasn't helped, keeping him sidelined for Week 8's loss to the Patriots."
Proctor has made a huge impact in the Dolphins' rushing attack
Through seven games, Proctor has played 357 snaps, allowed one sack and committed three penalties. Despite his growing pains, he has helped Miami average 123.3 rushing yards per game, the 11th-best mark in the NFL.
Johnson, selected 27th overall , has also earned a starting role in the Dolphins' secondary. Through seven games, he has recorded 40 tackles and two passes defended, earning the same C+ grade from Wilson.
"Johnson is becoming more dependable as Miami moves him between outside corner and the slot," Wilson wrote. "His competitiveness, recovery speed and ability to stay in phase on shorter routes were strengths at San Diego State, and we're seeing that now show up on Sundays. Bottom line: He's made real progress since September, when I gave him a C."
While neither rookie has been flawless, both first-rounders are showing signs of progress. For a Dolphins team leaning heavily on young talent, Proctor and Johnson's development could prove critical as the season progresses.
