The Miami Dolphins made another roster move Tuesday, cutting ties with a cornerback who had been working his way back from a serious knee injury.
Storm Duck, who has been on the physically unable to perform list since the start of training camp, has been released, according to the Miami Herald.
Duck, 25, originally joined the Dolphins in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. He played college football at North Carolina, where he earned second-team All-ACC honors, before transferring to Louisville.
Duck hasn't played in a game since suffering a knee injury in 2025
Over 16 games during the past two seasons, Duck recorded 37 tackles and five passes defensed. In 2025, he suffered a significant, season-ending knee injury in late October, limiting him to just two games.
In the past few weeks since he began practicing, Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley hasn't said much about Duck beyond that the team would continue monitoring his progress.
Duck recovered and has been practicing fully for the past two weeks since the Dolphins opened his 21-day practice window on Sept. 30. Miami had until Oct. 21 to place Duck on its active roster. Otherwise, he would have reverted to the PUP list and missed the rest of the 2026 season.
Instead, the Dolphins moved on, leaving Duck free to sign with any team.
After Duck's release, Miami's cornerback room includes Chris Johnson, Jason Marshall Jr., JuJu Brents, Marcellas Dial Jr., Jaylin Simpson and Reese Taylor.
For a Dolphins team already thin on talent and depth, Duck's departure is another reminder that roster spots are getting harder to come by — and nobody is guaranteed a return.
