Dolphins release 2 top free agent acquisitions of 2025
The Miami Dolphins released offensive lineman James Daniels and wide receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhine , according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero , two of their top free agent acquisitions last offseason.
Daniels signed a three-year, $24 million deal with the Dolphins and the team hoped he'd solidify their right guard position. Westbrook-Ikhine signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Dolphins hoping he'd be the No. 3 receiver they struggled to find behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle . They were the only two outside free agents to sign with Miami on multi-year deals.
Neither plan worked out, though.
On his third snap of the season, Daniels suffered a pec injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Former Patriots first-round pick Cole Strange eventually took over at right guard for the majority of the season.
Westbrook-Ikhine caught only 11 passes for 89 yards with no touchdowns and played just six offensive snaps in the last three games of the year.
Releasing the duo won't do much to change the Dolphins' salary cap situation. Both were due to count just over $3 million against the team's cap next season and releasing them will make minimal impact on Miami's space.
