The Miami Dolphins ' offensive line group got a bit thinner on Monday, as they announced the release of Liam Eichenberg .
Eichenberg, 28, originally joined the roster as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft (No. 42 overall) out of Notre Dame, where he earned All-ACC and All-American honors in his final year.
After splitting time between left and right tackle as a rookie, Eichenberg bounced between left guard, center and right guard from 2022-24. He landed on the PUP list in August 2025 and was never activated, so he missed the entire year.
Eichenberg was originally set to be a free agent this offseason, but spending an entire year on the PUP kept his contract from tolling, meaning he would've been on the roster for one more year.
The former Fighting Irish appeared in 60 games and started 52 over the last five years, but he was never much better than your average backup lineman, topping out with a 53.1 grade from Pro Football Focus in 2024.
The Dolphins were expected to start the new league year with only two guards under contract for the 2026 season, but now they'll only have one - Jonah Savaiinea.
