Dolphins reunite with TE they waived 2 weeks ago
When the Miami Dolphins waived tight end Hayden Rucci at the end of November to make room for Darren Waller to come back from injured reserve, they hoped to bring him back on the practice squad. Nearly two weeks later, the Dolphins are reunited with Rucci.
Rucci spent just over a week with the Detroit Lions after he was claimed by the team off waivers. But he waived by the Lions on Wednesday and added back to the Dolphins' practice squad Friday.
Dolphins coaches have spoken glowingly about Rucci's work to develop with the team.
“When you’re looking at developmental players, it’s more of the intangibles are sometimes things that you’re looking for," Miami offensive coordinator Frank Smith said in November. "You want guys who love the weight room, that love the process, because they know that it’s going to be a process for their development to get to play. I think [Rucci], he’s a machine with working as hard as he can to get the most out of what he wants to get done."
Rucci has appeared in four games with the Dolphins with 39 snaps on offense and 42 on special teams.
Also on Friday, the Dolphins moved special teamer Caleb Johnson to injured reserve and signed Isaiah Johnson from their practice squad to the active roster.
