Roster cutdown day is less than a week away.
All 32 teams will need to be down to 53 players by Aug. 30 at 6 p.m.
Several Miami Dolphins players have locked down their roster spots. But on a young team full of depth concerns, there are still a lot of players who could use a good showing in the Dolphins' preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night.
Among them is wide receiver Tutu Atwell , who was expected to be one of the Dolphins' starting wide receivers before training camp. However, he has since been passed on the depth chart by rookie Caleb Douglas.
In addition, Atwell has had a quiet training camp. He also ended Saturday afternoon's game against the New York Giants with zero catches.
Atwell was targeted twice and dropped both passes. One came on a contested pass, while the other appeared to be a routine catch, but he dropped it on third down.
After signing a one-year, $1.4 million contract this offseason, expectations were high for Atwell to be a productive player. But he will need to have a spectacular week, including a strong showing against the Falcons, if he's going to make the roster.
Washington, like Atwell, has also failed to impress during training camp
Another wide receiver who could be on the chopping block before final cuts is Tahj Washington . His chances of making the roster took a massive hit against the Giants. Washington muffed a punt inside the 10-yard line late in the game, leading to a turnover.
While he does provide the Dolphins with special-teams value, Washington went without a catch against the Washington Commanders in the preseason opener.
Douglas, Malik Washington, Chris Bell, Kevin Coleman Jr. and Jalen Tolbert appear to have the fast track to making Miami's receiving corps . Players like Atwell and Washington are running out of time to show they should be retained.
