As the Indiana Fever take on the Las Vegas Aces , Tyasha Harris is cheering her team on from home, and she's not letting that stop her from speaking out about the league's officiating. When one fan tried to turn her comments back on her, Caitlin Clark 's teammate responded with a warning of her own, and she later clarified what she meant.
"I ain't say special whistles btw so don't put words in my mouth," she wrote on X . "I'm just saying these whistles as in when ref call these touchy touchy calls !! So don't start with me ????."
Here's what happened. During Game 2 between the Fever and the Aces, Harris was posting on her X account, lamenting calls from the officials, seemingly frustrated with what she saw as overly sensitive calls.
"Here we go with these whistles ????????♀️????????♀️????????♀️," she wrote.
A fan replied, suggesting that her complaints were "why u not playing," leading Harris to fire back with a comment of her own.
"Karma is a scary thing be careful."
Then, she posted the clarification of her comments to her account.
The timing of her comments makes things even more intriguing. As of 4:56 left in the fourth quarter, the Aces have shot 26 free throws to the Fever's 15, while committing 15 fouls, five fewer than the Fever. However, she made sure to not single any one player out, instead suggesting that the refs had not been consistent with their officiating.
Harris is currently sidelined after she suffered a season-ending broken fibula in her left leg during the Fever's final regular season game against the Minnesota Lynx . Harris had to be carried off the court after her injury, ending a season in which she averaged 4.1 points and two assists per game as the backup to Caitlin Clark.
Notably, she's not the only Fever player to call out the refs for calling what they see as unfair fouls. During Game 1, center Aliyah Boston also did so , albeit without words. After being called for her fifth foul on A'ja Wilson, Boston, who was heading to the bench, looked back over at a referee while waving her arms around to signal that she thought Wilson had flopped.
However, the most contested foul came from Sophie Cunningham . As Chelsea Gray attempted to shoot towards the end of Q1 in Game 1, Cunningham jumped up to block her shot. While there seemed to be minimal contact between the players, Gray fell to the floor, and Cunningham was called for a foul, which was later upgraded to a Flagrant 1. The foul call was highly contested by fans, who argued that Gray's form while shooting the ball was what caused the actual contact.
Fever head coach Stephanie White highlighted just how much the fouling from her team had helped the Aces during the postgame conference following Game 1, listing it as one of two major factors leading to their loss.
"Yeah. I mean, 28 points off of turnovers," she said. "Your first line of transition defense is offensive execution, and 28 points off of turnovers, and 17 points from the free-throw line. So, those are easy buckets. We didn't do our job."
Now, the Fever and Caitlin Clark will look to close out Game 2 against the Aces at home. If they manage to win, it will set up a win-or-go-home Game 3 back in Las Vegas as the conclusion of the best-of-three series.
