Donovan Davis' commitment follows unsettling trend for Wisconsin

While it should've been rather straightforward to land Donovan Davis, the Wisconsin Badgers once again came up empty.

Iowa State won the battle for the Kaukauna native, which followed an unsettling trend that has happened under Greg Gard.

There's no denying the Cyclones are becoming a premier team not just in the Big 12, but in the nation. What TJ Otzelberger has done with the program is sensational, but it really puts things into perspective for Greg Gard.

Davis was the No. 2 player in Wisconsin and is yet another instance of Gard letting a top in-state recruit slip away. In fact, 247Sports reports Wisconsin has missed out on the last 17 in-state prospects ranked in the top-100 nationally.

Going back to when Otzelberger was hired in 2021, five of the top 15 Wisconsin recruits have committed to ISU. Other notable misses for Gard include: Patrick Baldwin Jr., Kon Knueppel, Dooney Johnson, and Seth Trimble, among others.

Zach Kinziger is the lone top-15 player to commit to Wisconsin in that span. Currently, Jack Kohnen, Jalen Brown, and Kager Knueppel all remain uncommitted.
