The Atlanta Braves are getting dealt a tough injury blow. Slugger Drake Baldwin, who is hitting at an excellent pace this season, is headed to the injured list. It is the latest in a long line of injuries for the Braves this season.

"Atlanta, which has overcome injury after injury in their runaway season, now sustain huge blow with MVP candidate Drake Baldwin going on the IL with a strained right oblique muscle," USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale posted to X, formerly Twitter.
This season, Baldwin already has 13 home runs for an Atlanta team that has been one of baseball's biggest surprises. The catcher also has 38 RBIs. He is hitting at a .303 batting average.
"In just his second big league season, Baldwin is second on the Braves in bWAR with 2.2, and he's second to Matt Olson in homers, slugging percentage (.543) and OPS (.932). The reigning NL Rookie of the Year, Baldwin has played in all 48 of the Braves' games this season," MLB.com reported.
Braves are trying to fight their way through injuries
It isn't truly clear how long Baldwin will be out. He is currently on the 10-day IL. Braves fans are hoping that he can return soon, to help out Ronald Acuna Jr. and others in the lineup.

The timing of Baldwin's injury is bad for the Braves, for a different reason. Acuna is set to return from injury on Tuesday. He has been battling a hamstring strain.
While Atlanta currently has a comfortable lead in the National League East, there is still a lot of baseball left to play. The Philadelphia Phillies have seen a resurgence under Don Mattingly . The New York Mets certainly have the talent to win games, but it hasn't translated yet this season.
The Braves are first in the NL East this season. Atlanta has a 32-16 record. The club is in action on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins.
