The Anaheim Ducks will be without captain Radko Gudas for Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night. The Ducks ruled out the veteran defenseman with an undisclosed injury.
Gudas, 35, was present in Game 1 but saw a steep drop in usage, skating for just 9:40 across 14 shifts, well below his regular-season average of 16:11 per game. He finished with a minus-1 rating, and a misstep contributed to the Oilers' game-tying goal in what became a 4-3 loss for Anaheim. His limited deployment follows a stretch where he missed a substantial portion of games due to a lower-body injury, sitting out nine of the final 10 contests of the season. Over 56 regular-season games, Gudas recorded two goals and 11 assists for 13 points, 164 hits, and 67 penalty minutes.
In his absence, Drew Helleson will enter the lineup, skating on the third defensive pair alongside Tyson Hinds. The 25-year-old will be making his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut after appearing in 60 regular-season games, where he accumulated two goals and 13 assists for 15 points with a minus-4 rating. Moreover, he averaged just under 17 minutes of ice time per game and contributed 63 hits and 79 blocked shots. In 119 career NHL games, Helleson has garnered seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points.
Game 2 is scheduled for shortly after 10 p.m. ET, with the Ducks looking to even the series after the close Game 1 defeat.
