John Blackwell had an intriguing choice when it comes to an NBA player he would try to be like after his decision to transfer to the Duke Blue Devils this offseason.
Blackwell decided to use his final year of eligibility to join the Blue Devils. This marked the end of a three-year stint with the Wisconsin Badgers, where he made his way up the ranks to become one of the best scorers in the country.
Blackwell took some time out of his day to feature on an interview of the Field of 68 network. When it comes to players in the NBA he tries to take inspiration from, Blackwell had a clear choice for the defensive side of the ball.
"Defensively this year I'm trying to be like Jrue Holiday and offensively I'm just going to be me. Whether it's getting to the paint, making the right read, throwing up a lob or kicking out to the shooters, or coach needing me to knock down five threes, I'm gonna try to do it all to help my team win," Blackwell said.
What lies ahead for John Blackwell, Duke
The Duke Blue Devils will look forward to seeing John Blackwell be a threat on both sides of the ball. They certainly got a star from the Wisconsin Badgers this offseason.
Blackwell enjoyed the best season to date in his collegiate career with Wisconsin. He averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as he paired with Nick Boyd as a dynamic duo for the Badgers. Blackwell went on to earn All-Big Ten Third Team honors for his efforts.
Wisconsin experienced a unique campaign in which they stood out as one of the best teams in the country, racking up wins over teams inside the top 10 of the AP Top 25. They reached the NCAA Tournament but lost to the High Point Panthers in the first round.
Duke is coming off a brutal exit from the NCAA Tournament this past season. They finished with a remarkable 35-3 overall record but lost to the eventual national runners-up UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight.
