The Boston Red Sox are not performing up to expectations right now, and many questions remain about the team's direction.
The Red Sox are not out of it yet, but they will need to start playing better baseball soon, or else the season could be lost. However, regardless of what happens this season, the team may feel pressure to be more consistent moving forward. That will start by settling a new manager in the offseason.
Interim manager Chad Tracy was thrust into the role after Alex Cora was fired. The team will need to figure out who the long-term manager will be, but may also need to bring in some fresh voices to the front office. Rival executives have reportedly pointed out the lack of former big leaguers in the Red Sox front office, and president and CEO Sam Kennedy has made an attempt to change that.
During an appearance on "The Greg Hill Show" on Thursday, Kennedy revealed that he has asked Dustin Pedroia to join the organization multiple times, but Pedroia has consistently turned him down.
"I have over the years," Kennedy said when asked if he's asked Pedroia to have a role . "I would love to have (him) as part of the organization. Unfortunately, the answer I get is a consistent no. He's very, very happy coaching his kids. I do think there will be a day we can get him out of Arizona and get him back into the front office, or back into a uniform or dugout. Whatever he wants to do with his game, he'll do and pursue it with the approach we all know and love. For the time being, he unfortunately does not have interest."
Pedroia played 14 seasons for the Red Sox, winning two World Series, an MVP Award, four Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger. He was a four-time All-Star and a Red Sox legend. He would seemingly be a great asset in the front office or dugout, but right now, he is not interested.
