Eagles-Commanders rivalry gets adrenaline boost thanks to Fred Johnson

It isn't as venomous as the angst we see between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants or the vitriol shown by Birds fans when discussing the Dallas Cowboys . If you're an old man or woman, however, like some of the rest of us, you remember some hurt feelings stemming from meetings between the guys in green and their longtime rivals, now known as the Washington Commanders .

Buddy Ryan set the world upside down with the Body Bag Game, only to see his beloved team get pushed around by Washington in a one-and-done playoff appearance. It's been a while since this feud has been as steamy as it has been lately, but over the years, we have seen flashes. Now, it appears that things are getting back to being chippy.

Fred Johnson draws the ire of the Commanders and their fans.

We haven't seen a brawl like the recent shoving match between Philadelphia and Washington since Chip Kelly paced the sideline, and we saw a brawl between his version of the Birds and a Washington outfit that featured DeSean Jackson at wide receiver.

Things got personal between the Eagles and Commanders in Week 16, and Tyler Steen took it upon himself to try and fight all eleven men on the field for Washington's defense. That led to his ejection .

By winning, Philadelphia broke a two-decade-long jinx and won back-to-back divisional crowns. They also eliminated the Cowboys from postseason contention . Good news came two days later. Steen won't be suspended for his role in the altercation.

"I guess they were upset, but I don't give a (expletive). It's football. You can't control what the next person does."

That's a direct quote from Fred Johnson, one taken from a recent write-up by Jon Keim and Tim McManus . That probably won't play well in D.C., and it's almost certain to add more fuel to the fire.

Hey, when you ask guys to beat each other up and run over one another for three hours, this is sometimes part of the deal. Here's what's interesting. The Eagles and Commanders are scheduled to renew unpleasantries in Week 18. The City of Brotherly Love will provide the backdrop for that one. Don't expect any love until the game is over, though.
