Former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles pointed to one offseason departure as a turning point inside the team's locker room.
The Philadelphia Eagles' culture is officially under the microscope, and this time the criticism isn't coming from some random talking head. It's coming from Nick Foles . The former Eagles quarterback, a champion and a legend in this city, dropped a quote on a recent podcast episode that turned everybody's heads. It was loud enough that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni had to answer for it.
When a guy with that kind of history in Philly starts using the word "dysfunction," you have to pay attention. The real question is what it says about where this team is headed.
Here's the full quote from Foles, and it's worth reading every word:
"There is dysfunction in Philly," Foles said. "It's the little things for me. It wasn't the execution, it was the culture. I agree. I'm not even mad about the loss. It's about how it looked at the end of the game, letting Javonte Williams walk right into the end zone. The number one thing isn't scheme, a fancy coordinator. It's culture. In Philly, for the better of the past couple decades, they've had really good culture. Something is changing. When they got rid of Jeff Stoutland , that really pissed me off. I knew something bad was going to happen. He's a great coach. For him not to get the respect he deserves, that frustrates me."
That is a big statement from Foles. And honestly? I kind of agree with him on the Jeff Stoutland part.
Everybody loved Stoutland. The longtime offensive line coach had the respect of the entire room, and pushing him out the door was one of the first dominoes that led to where the Eagles are now. You don't just lose a guy like that and expect the building to feel the same. Stoutland wasn't just a position coach. He was a pillar.
Now, I want to be fair here. After listening to the entire episode, it didn't sound like Foles had sources feeding him inside information. This is his perception. But he also said, on that same episode, that the comments were probably going to go viral and people were going to run with them. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Sirianni was asked about the quote, and he kept his answer short.
"Nick Foles isn't in the building with us," Sirianni said.
Which is true. It is absolutely true. Foles is an outsider at this point. Sirianni and the Eagles have to keep this stuff in-house, and the head coach isn't going to stand at a podium and validate a former player calling his locker room dysfunctional. That's the right answer from a coaching standpoint.
But here's the thing, everybody. The biggest takeaway for me isn't whether Foles has inside information. It's that people outside the building are noticing. These are guys who have been around these players and this organization. Foles knows what a healthy Eagles locker room looks like because he was part of one that won a Super Bowl.
So if Foles is talking about the Eagles' culture this way, what are other ex-Eagles saying? What are people inside that building saying behind closed doors? Where there's smoke, there's fire.
And it's not just one podcast quote. Look at the body language week to week. Listen to the way defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been talking. It just doesn't feel good. It feels like the 2023 and 2025 seasons all over again, and we all remember how those ended. Those collapses didn't come out of nowhere, either. The warning signs were there long before the wheels came off.
I'm not saying there's concrete substance behind every word Foles said. Maybe it's an outsider reading too much into a bad finish. But perception becomes reality fast in this city, and right now the perception is starting to carry a stench.
Philadelphia needs to wake up and fix whatever it can before it's too late. If Sirianni and the Eagles don't get a handle on this soon, the problem won't stay on a podcast. It'll show up on the field, and the whole building could start to implode.
