It remains to be seen what the Philadelphia Eagles will do at the quarterback position now that starter Jalen Hurts will be sidelined for the remainder of the current campaign due to blood clots.
The Eagles have a couple of options. They could roll with their current depth at the position which includes Tanner McKee, Joe Milton and Cole Payton. Or, they could look to add an external QB to the mix, via free agency or a trade. If they're interested in the latter option, perhaps they could strike a deal with Pennsylvania's other team.
Eagles Named Potential Suitor for Mason Rudolph
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox named the Eagles as a potential suitor for Pittsburgh Steelers reserve quarterback Mason Rudolph, whose career claim to fame is leading college football in passing yards in 2017 during his senior season at Oklahoma State.
Rudolph has much more experience than any of the QBs currently on Philadelphia's roster, as he has 20 career starts under his belt, including one playoff start. So if experience is what the Eagles are looking for, Rudolph could fit the bill. The Steelers have other options behind Aaron Rodgers, so one would think that Rudolph could be available for the right price.
"Mason Rudolph remains the most logical trade target for teams seeking a backup quarterback or spot starter midseason. He's one of three reserve QBs that the Pittsburgh Steelers have behind Aaron Rodgers, along with Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar," Knox wrote.
"Rudolph, who has made 20 career starts (including playoffs), will be most valuable if and when another team loses its starter for an extended period. That said, there are a few franchises that should view him as an upgrade over their current depth."
Rudolph would be a pretty uninspiring addition, but he wouldn't be a terrible stopgap option, as he could potentially provide the Eagles with a steadier hand if they hope to remain in the playoff picture in the NFC without their longtime starter.
Could Eagles Turn to Joe Milton?
Technically, the Eagles have already added a new QB following Hurts' shift to the sideline, as they plucked Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad. Milton doesn't have nearly the same experience as Rudolph, but he does have some intriguing upside. He's much more mobile than a guy like Rudolph, and that mobility could be beneficial given the current state of Philadelphia's offensive line.
While McKee is a sitting duck behind Philly's porous line, Milton could potentially do a better job eluding pressure and extending plays. If McKee continues to struggle like he did in Week 6 against Carolina, perhaps the Eagles will ultimately turn to Milton.
