Sunday Night Football Preview
Sunday Night Football gives us an NFC East clash, and apparently, the schedule makers decided they had to keep this one in primetime.
You don't need to watch this one if you have other post-Halloween plans, but I am absolutely betting it.
This line just keeps moving toward Washington all week, and I don't understand it.
This is the wonk line of the week.
Eagles Preview
I'm not going to pretend that I want to invest in the Eagles long term.
I don't like the Eagles. I don't like their run game, I don't like their blocking, I don't like their defense, and I don't like their coaching. They are also playing on a short week after losing to the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
Their defense has been incredibly disappointing. Their trench play on both sides of the ball has been bad.
But here's the thing: as bad as all of those things have been for Philadelphia, I still like every single one of those things better for Philly than for Washington. Even as disappointing as Philly's defense has been, the Eagles defense is still easily the best unit in this game.
Philadelphia is an abysmal 1-6 against the spread (ATS) this season, but this is the exact time of year when you want to catch the falling knife on these terrible ATS teams.
In Weeks 6-11, underdogs that are covering at a 20% rate or worse (like the Eagles) hit at a 60% ATS clip. In just November, underdogs covering at 20% or worse and getting three or more points on the spread are an awesome 29-13 ATS (69%).
These teams cover the number by over six points per game in those spots, including an 11-3 ATS mark in division games — winning half of them outright.
Commanders Preview
What in the world have the Commanders done to be a 6-point favorite against anyone in the NFL, let alone a division rival? I wouldn't have Washington favored by six against any team in the league right now.
I understand why some sharp money has moved the line toward the Commanders: Washington is rested and coming off a bye week while the Eagles are dealing with the Monday Night Football hangover.
Jayden Daniels is the one clear advantage the Commanders have in this matchup, but that simply is not enough for me to lay this kind of number.
Furthermore, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is the least profitable active coach in Bet Labs as a favorite, with a miserable 40% cover rate.
The Commanders also have to overcome a mental hurdle in this rivalry — the Eagles have won 15 of the last 20 meetings against Washington.
Sunday Night Football Spread Pick
Despite all the hits they've taken this season, I still have the Eagles rated ahead of Washington in my power ratings. That means I make this game much closer to a pick'em.
I also like a team-agnostic trend here: Road division underdogs catching between three and seven points boast a 57% cover rate over a massive 400-game sample size over the last two decades.
This is the dumbest line of the week. You can play the moneyline if you want to get aggressive, but I don't need it. I just want an Eagles cover.
Give me Philly plus the points and let's find something else to do on Sunday evening.
Pick: Eagles+6
If you happen to use prediction markets, Polymarket and Kalshi are offering +6.5 for the Eagles.
