East Carolina deep-threat Anthony Smith to take pre-draft visit with Packers
Per NFL rules, the Green Bay Packers are allowed to host up to 30 draft-eligible players (excluding “local” prospects, such as those in the UW system or nearby regional schools such as Northern Illinois) for in-person visits. The Journal Sentinel is tracking the visits and supplying profiles based on information from sources and published reports.

GREEN BAY – Wide receiver Anthony Smith spent four seasons at North Carolina State waiting his turn. When it didn’t come, he transferred to East Carolina and his career took off.
In two seasons with the Pirates, the 6-2, 197-pound Smith caught 105 passes for 1,852 yards and 13 touchdowns, including 64 for 1,053 and seven touchdowns last season. He saved his best for last, catching four passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns against Pittsburgh in the Military Bowl .
Smith, whose track background resulted in him running a blazing 4.45-second 40-yard dash, will make a top-30 visit to the Green Bay Packers . Though he has mostly flown below the radar as a draft prospect and was a late invite to the East-West game, he has started to gain more interest after solid postseason performances in front of scouts.
It’s possible Smith will go undrafted, but the Packers undoubtedly were aware of his big-play ability. In 2025, he caught passes of 72, 66, 50, 49, 41 and 31 yards. The year prior, he had catches of 64, 53, 50, 47, 42, 39 and 31 yards.
“As Pirate Nation knows, my skill set is speed, so they [scouts] love that about me,” Smith told the Reflector at his pro day. “So, that’s kind of why I wanted to come out here and show them so I could run some routes. I think I put on a good performance.”
Smith, who was named the MVP of the Military Bowl, barely saw the field while at North Carolina State, but he was named All-American Athletic Conference in both seasons at East Carolina.
Though Smith was not a returner in college, it’s possible the Packers could explore his return ability should they draft or sign him.
Smith was an all-state track performer in high school in Huntington, Maryland.
