- Eastern Washington Eagles lose in exhibition to Arizona Wildcats
Oct. 23—The Eastern Washington Men's Basketball team could never get it going with only one player, Kennesaw State transfer Jamil Miller, scoring in double digits (10) in an 85-54 beatdown against Tommy Lloyd's Arizona Wildcats on Friday at McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona.
Both teams struggled to take care of the ball committing a combined 49 turnovers. There were three steals before the game's first points.
The Eagles held tough scoring five points in the first four minutes. But after allowing two separate nine-point scoring surges midway through the first half, they never trailed by less than 15 points for the remainder of the game.
Midway through the second period, the Eagles were down by their largest margin, 40 points when Cameron Holmes made a layup to make it 76-36 with 12:15 left.
After Arizona won the jump ball, Western Michigan transfer point guard senior Jalen Griffith intercepted a pass from 18-year-old true freshman guard Caleb Holt. But Eastern Washington couldn't capitalize as Alton Hamilton IV missed his 3-point jumper. Miller, a Gonzaga Prep graduate, rebounded the miss, but Holt stole the ball back, then turned it over again four seconds later.
At 18:18, Motijeus Krivas dunked on a second-chance score to break the deadlock. Miller replied with a dunk of his own on a fastbreak. But Holt came right back with a 3-point shot to make it 5-2.
Holt, the No. 2 recruit in the nation according to 247Sports composite rankings, led all scorers with 21 points, and grabbed five rebounds with three steals.
