Welcome to the World Cup Round of 16, Egypt! Mohamed Salah and Egypt have advanced after taking down Australia in penalty kicks. Egypt went a perfect 4/4 in opportunities while the Aussies missed two off the crossbar.

Egypt has now won its first knockout stage contest in the history of the country. It was truly an exciting match all the way to the finish. Any time a World Cup game ends in penalty kicks, you know you were in for a treat.

Hossam Abdelmaguid scored the final goal for his team and took his shirt off while running in celebration. It does not get any better than that. Eman Ashour scored the first goal for Egypt, and then, in the 55th minute, Australia scored due to an own goal by Mohamed Hany.

Egypt will now wait for the winner of Argentina and Cape Verde. This is now when the nitty gets gritty, and every team left is capable of making a serious run. If Egypt were to somehow get past Argentina in the Round of 16, then they are set up to face either Switzerland or, in all likelihood, Colombia (If they were to beat Ghana on Friday night).

After the win, Mohamed Salah went over to the Australian players and comforted them. Salah is one of the classiest players in the world and has a lot of respect coming his way.

Usually, you see a player who has done so much for his country/team that they would normally celebrate by going crazy. Instead, Salah went over to the opponents and consoled them.

The 2026 World Cup has been nothing shy of amazing so far. It will only get better in the final three weeks.
