Drew Brees appears poised to be the first quarterback elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame since Peyton Manning (Class of 2021) when the Class of 2026 is announced Thursday, Feb. 5 .
It is unlikely Manning's brother Eli will be the next one, or the one after that.
For the second straight year, Eli Manning reached the finals but did not make the Hall of Fame in news that leaked Jan. 28 .
In Class of 2027 consideration, he will be up against Ben Roethlisberger . In 2028, it'll be Tom Brady .
Eli Manning's stats & Hall of Fame credentials
Eli Manning has reached the finalists stage in the last voting cycles, based on leading the New York Giants to Super Bowl wins capping the 2007 and 2011 seasons.
Aside from that, his record pales in comparison to his brother's, Roethlisberger's and Brady's.
Eli Manning's record as a starting quarterback in a career spanning 2004-19 (all with the Giants) was 117-117 in regular seasons and 8-4 in postseasons.
-
Peyton Manning 's record across 17 seasons with the Colts and Broncos was 186-79 in regular seasons and 14-13 in postseasons.
-
Roethlisberger's record across 18 years, all with Pittsburgh , was 165-81-1 in regular seasons and 13-10 in postseasons.
-
Brady's record across 23 years with the Patriots and Buccaneers was 251-82 in regular seasons and 35-13 in postseasons.
Eli Manning was the Super Bowl MVP in both appearance, a four-time Pro Bowl pick and the 2016 Walter Payton Man of the Year. He ranks 11th all-time in career touchdown passes and passing yards. He finished in the top four in touchdown passes during four seasons and had five seasons in which was in the top six in passing yards.
Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger on the way in future Hall of Fame quarterback votes
Eli Manning's next realistic chance to get in likely will be delayed if Roethlisberger is not a first-ballot enshrinee in the Class of 2027. That would push Roethlisberger into Class of 2028 consideration with Brady, who likely would get the nod, if only one quarterback goes in.
If Eli Manning winds up in head-to-head consideration against Roethlisberger for the Class of 2029, Roethlisberger has the stronger overall record. Manning won the only two Super Bowls he played in. Roethlisberger made it to three, winning one.
Three quarterbacks were finalists in Class of 2026 consideration before Philip Rivers came out of retirement to play for the Colts, leaving only Brees and Eli Manning as finalists. The clock resets on Rivers, who must go through another five-year waiting period, and won't be eligible until the Class of 2031.
When are Aaron Rodgers , Philip Rivers Hall of Fame eligible?
Aaron Rodgers, 42, played for the Steelers in 2025. He will be eligible for the Class of 2031 if he doesn't play again.
Eli Manning's best shot at the Hall might be just before Rodgers becomes eligible.
Coming out of 2025, Rodgers record is 163-93-1 in regular seasons and 12-11 in postseasons. Rivers, at 134-109 in regular seasons and 5-7 in postseasons, shapes up as more in the ballpark of Eli Manning.
Among quarterbacks named in this article, the pecking order in career passer rating is 102.2 for Rodgers, 98.7 for Brees, 97.2 for Brady, 96.5 for Peyton Manning, 95.0 for Rivers, 93.5 for Roethlisberger, and 84.1 for Eli Manning,
There is a big caveat in assuming too much about who will and won't get in, in the wake of the Bill Belichick snub for the Class of 2026. Of course, Belichick was a coach, not a quarterback.
