The New England Patriots finally have a new wide receiver. The Patriots have agreed to a four-year, $68 million deal with free-agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs , as reported by Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer . Doubs' contract maxes out at $80 million if he reaches the other incentives.
The 25-year-old wide receiver has spent his entire NFL career with the Green Bay Packers . During the 2024-25 NFL season, Doubs earned 55 receptions, 724 yards, and six touchdowns in 16 games. Doubs has also played in 13-plus games in every season of his NFL career with Green Bay . It is a massive payday for one of the best wide receivers in free agency.

New England was connected to Alec Pierce before he re-signed with the Indianapolis Colts , so this doesn't come as a surprise. Doubs was arguably the third-best wide receiver on the market behind Pierce and Wan'Dale Robinson, so $17 million per year with potential for $20 million is an excellent deal for both sides.
The Patriots have also been in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles over wide receiver A.J. Brown , but this shouldn't take them out of the mix. Brown has been New England's top target, and the team was open to having him and Stefon Diggs on the roster at the right price.
Doubs currently leads the wide receiver room with Kayshon Boutte , Kyle Williams , Mack Hollins , and more behind him. However, the Patriots' offense would be elite if they found a way to acquire a wide receiver that puts Doubs into a WR2 role. For now, the former Packer will serve as Drake Maye 's top target.
Wide receiver was New England's top need going into NFL free agency, so Doubs checks a box, replacing Diggs. Now, the Patriots will move forward with their other needs while continuing their pursuit of Brown.
