The Everton hierarchy are currently discussing a potential move to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford in January.
That is according to former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes the link is one to watch ahead of the January window.
Rashford was heavily linked with a move away from United in the summer, and is out of contract at Old Trafford in the summer of 2028.
Wyness believes that the England international is being talked about "strongly" as a genuine option for Everton, who are looking to add more firepower to their squad this winter.
Rashford has been back in the fold at United this season after loans with Aston Villa and Barcelona in recent years, but is still waiting for his first goal contribution of the campaign.
However, his contract situation has put his long-term future with his boyhood club in doubt, and Everton are hoping to capitalise on that this winter.
Everton to repeat Jack Grealish trick with Marcus Rashford
Everton's former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that a winter move to Everton could provide an ideal fit for Rashford long-term.
The Scottish businessman pointed towards the success that Jack Grealish has enjoyed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and feels that Rashford is currently at a similar stage of his career.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast , Wyness explained that he has no doubt that Everton are readying a move.
"Yes, this is definitely being talked about and quite strongly. And I think that could be an interesting solution," he said.
"Rashford did well when he was on loan at Villa and at Barcelona as well. I think it could work, and I think being close to where he is in Manchester, just along the M63, could also benefit him greatly as well.
"We've seen Jack (Grealish) moving across that way as well, and when he's fit, Jack is certainly a big asset for Everton. So think Rashford would be a very interesting signing, and I'm hearing there's a lot of smoke here; it's definitely being discussed.
"I wouldn't be surprised to see something happening in January."
Everton told the signing they can make that would already have secured them 'extra six points' Marcus Rashford to help with major Everton issue
Wyness previously told Football Insideron Tuesday that Everton's failure to sign a striker in the summer has already cost them "six points" so far this season.
Thierno Barry is the Toffees' only senior frontman at the moment, and he has faced scrutiny over the quality of his finishing in recent weeks.
However, Rashford could be an ideal solution to solve that issue and get more goals into the team for the second half of the season.
He is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, and would add another level of quality to David Moyes' squad.
