Professional scouts will get an extended look at several Clemson baseball -connected players later this month at the MLB Draft Combine.
Five players with ties to the Tigers are scheduled to participate in the event at Chase Field in Phoenix. That group includes current Clemson players Jarren Purify, Aidan Knaak and Justin LeGuernic, along with incoming freshmen Blake Bryant and Chase Kiker.
Purify continues to strengthen his draft profile this summer in the MLB Draft League, where he recently earned Player of the Week honors. Meanwhile, Knaak and LeGuernic will have an opportunity to showcase their abilities in front of evaluators from all 30 organizations.
Among the group, Bryant enters with the highest draft stock. MLB.com ranks the right-hander No. 61 in its draft prospect rankings, making him the only Clemson-affiliated player currently inside the outlet's Top 200.
The 6-foot-5 Georgia native impressed scouts last summer at East Coast Pro, striking out all six batters he faced, including projected first-round pick Jacob Lombard on a 95-mph fastball. Bryant also helped lead Citizen Christian Academy to a state championship during his senior season.
Bryant's fastball sits in the low-to-mid 90s and has touched 96 mph. He complements it with a slider, curveball and developing changeup, giving him the type of arsenal that has made him one of Clemson's top incoming prospects.
The MLB Draft Combine runs from June 23-25 and gives players a chance to perform in front of Major League front offices and scouting staffs. Last year, more than 80 percent of participants were selected in the MLB Draft, including 87 of the first 100 picks. MLB Network will begin live coverage on June 23 at noon.
