One of the long-time veterans for the Los Angeles Dodgers is balling out for his new team. Former Dodgers starter Dustin May signed with the St. Louis Cardinals this offseason.

While May's performance has been up and down this season for St. Louis , the veteran found his best form against a former rival of his.
May got the start for the Cardinals against the San Diego Padres on Monday night. Against one of the better teams in the league, May balled out, going the full nine innings against the Dodgers' in-state rivals. With that, May had the first complete game of his career.
The cherry on top? May went nine innings without allowing a single run and allowed just one hit from the Padres.
Before this game, May possessed an ERA of 4.21. It's not a good number, but it was a much better mark than his final year with the Dodgers, where he had a disastrous 4.85 ERA. After a stellar 2023 season for Los Angeles , May missed most of the 2024 season with an injury. Since then, his performance hasn't been quite the same.

Over the last few games, May has gotten better and better as he recovers his form from three years ago. He shut out the New York Mets in their last game and allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last five games before the Padres game. Interestingly, the ex-Dodgers' FIP (Fielding-Independent Pitching) has been pretty solid at 3.22, indicating that his below-average ERA might be hiding his power this year.
The Cardinals have been one of the surprising teams in the league. With that win, they improved to 39-31 on the season.
Meanwhile, May's former team, the Dodgers, are near the top of the NL with a 46-27 record. It seems likely that May might face his former team in the postseason. What an interesting game that will end up being!
